Fall Classes


We are pleased to announce an exciting new class called "Sing Your Heart Out!" beginning Sept. 11, in which participants will receive vocal technique training.  Girls, in particular, will learn how to mix head and chest voice to "belt" safely.  Boys and girls will learn to align the voice with correct breathing technique working with vocalises (exercises).  They will learn through exercise how to alternately relax and strengthen vocal cords as well as to choose music that is just right for their personality and vocal range, and how to apply acting technique to bring songs to performance level. 

The class will utilize demonstration, short lectures, printed material, solo performing, group and solo exercises as well as a mock audition, where participants will learn audition technique.  This class will be offered in monthly or 8 week segments on Thursdays from 5-6:45 pm and will be ongoing throughout the school year.  It is open to 4th graders (age 9) and up.  Monthly fee is $132 for 4 classes.  The 8 week segment payment will receive a 5% discount and cost $250.  All fees are due on the first day of class.  Instructors are Lynn Halverson and Teresa Ruiz. 

 

"Creative Dynamics" for ages 5-10 will be offered weekly beginning on September 8th. This is a beginning level drama class that will encourage creative problem solving, craft a foundation for stage techniques and introduce children to performance through creative playmaking, improvisional scenes and theatre games. The class is offered every Monday from 5:00-6:00 pm and will be ongoing throughout the school year. The monthly fee is $65 with fees due on the first day of each month. The instructor is Phillip Baumgarner.

 

Athens Little Playhouse is establishing "The ALPs Traveling Acting Troupe". This troupe will be grounded in an acting class devoted to developing plays, scenes and skits that can be taken out and performed in the community. Participants will be required to take the class in order to perform at libraries, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, schools (when schedules allow), festivals, churches and other venues. A repertoire will be developed in collaboration with instructors and students. A commitment for the entire school year is requested. The class will be offered on Wednesdays from 5-7 pm and is available to ages 9 and up. The fee is $100 a month with fees due on the first class day of each month. Instructors are Kelly McGlaun Fields and Nonie Fox.

 

We will be offering "The Saturday Series" on each Saturday of the month from 10 am – noon.. Participants will receive instruction in specific acting techniques one week, training and exposure to a variety of singing styles & techniques another week, then instruction in different styles of dance and finally, basic instruction in various theatre crafts such as make-up, lighting design, costuming, music and other aspects of theatre. Every Saturday will cover a different topic from each area, utilizing diverse instructors from the ALPs Faculty and the greater Athens Arts Community. Primary instructors for this class will be Lynn Halverson, Teresa Ruiz and Scott Earle. This class will be offered in renewing 8 wk segments; the fee will be $250 a segment or $132 a month.
